Dry needling is the use of an acupuncture-like needle that is inserted into the skin; targeting the trigger points of a specific muscle. Myofascial trigger points are a hyperirritable spot in a tight muscle that can contribute to painful symptoms. The goals of dry needling are to decrease pain, increase mobility, and restore function. Dry needling is often used in conjunction with other physiotherapy treatments such as: education, manual therapy, and exercise prescription to achieve such goals.

Our skilled and compassionate Physiotherapists have the ability to asses and treat physical pain, stiffness and dysfunction. Physiotherapists specialize in assisting clients who have specific goals to address pain that limits their day-to-day function and activity. Physiotherapists are also able to address goals that do not involve pain, such as surgical prehabilitation, postural concerns, or general conditioning.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

 

Physiotherapy of the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding area are for those who experience incontinence, sudden urgent need to urinate, frequent urination, constipation, pain with intercourse, pain with tampon insertion, pelvic pain, pelvic floor muscular weakness, bladder and bowel symptoms throughout pregnancy and pelvic or low back pain throughout pregnancy. Pelvic floor physiotherapy involves education and can be beneficial for those preparing for childbirth and seeking guidance on physical activity recommendations during pregnancy. *Currently offering Pelvic Floor therapy for those with female anatomy.

Physiotherapist
Peter is a dedicated and friendly Physiotherapist
who strives to help clients achieve functional goals through effective diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment plans. Peter has experience treating a wide variety of patients, allowing him to assess patients of all ages and activity levels. Using the latest research, Peter strives to provide the highest quality of care for clients to get well and stay well. Peter’s clinical interests include shoulder pain, neck pain, low back pain, brain injury, chronic conditions, and vestibular dysfunction.

 

Peter Laidlaw graduated with distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honour’s Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology. He later completed a Master’s of Physical Therapy degree from Western University. Peter is certified in the specialized care of neck, upper back, and lower back pain. Peter has also completed post-graduate education in medical acupuncture, manual therapy and concussion management. Peter is committed to continuing education and is currently pursuing further specialized training in brain injury, vestibular rehabilitation, and manual therapy.

Cyrus Kazemi
Physiotherapist
Cyrus is a passionate physiotherapist who enjoys
working with client’s of all ages to help them achieve their goals. He completed his Honour’s Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology at Laurentian University and then went on to complete a Master’s of Physical Therapy Degree from Queen’s University. From there he gained experience in physiotherapy by working with client’s in the hospital and private practice clinical settings in Nova Scotia, before moving back to his home province in September 2023. Cyrus is very enthusiastic for the opportunity to work with clients in his community of Toronto and is proficient at diagnosing and treating injuries and conditions within his physiotherapy scope of practice. Cyrus is also excited to be offering Dry Needling Techniques after taking the Acupuncture Canada Dry Needling Level 1 Course in October. Cyrus has most recently developed a great passion for the sport of pickleball, and is interested in injury prevention/treatment and performance goals related to the sport. Christiane Lefort is a registered physiotherapist with
the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario who has additional training in pelvic floor physiotherapy. She completed her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy degree at Queen’s University and has taken pelvic floor courses in urinary incontinence, dyspareunia, pregnancy, and pediatrics.

 

Christiane pursued a career in pelvic floor physiotherapy because she is passionate about empowering clients and helping them improve their quality of life by eliminating unwanted symptoms. She is originally from the east coast but is absolutely loving living in Toronto.Christiane enjoys discovering new restaurants, reading, being outdoors, and staying active.

Alessandro graduated with honors from ICT Kikkawa
College in 2021. Since then, he has been practicing in a multidisciplinary setting, supporting individuals with a wide variety of issues, such as acute/chronic pain, neurological symptoms, post fracture patients, sports/weight lifting injuries, etc. Prior to becoming an RMT, Alessandro operated as a Personal Trainer for 2 years and frequently implements exercise as part of the rehabilitation process. Whether your concern is addressing muscular imbalances, or restoring postural faults, exercises will be catered to your fitness level to assist in your progress. In 2022, Alessandro received a certification in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture from McMaster University, and frequently utilizes electro-acupuncture in his practice. Some other services Alessandro specializes in include Swedish Relaxation Massage, Deep Tissue Sports Massage, Intra-Oral Massage for TMJ dysfunction, and Lymphatic Drainage.

Veraleen graduated York University with a degree
in Kinesiology & Health Sciences. Her passion to help others’ physical health brought her to Sutherland-Chan to pursue massage therapy. Through the program, she has gained clinical experience working with a wide demographic of people with various conditions and musculoskeletal issues. Her goal is to provide treatment that is tailored to each client in order to achieve long term effects towards their overall well-being.

 

In her free time, Veraleen tries to stay active by playing a variety of sports – most recently, bowling. She also loves finding new restaurants, fishing, and exploring new cities.

Dawn Marie brings over a decade of experience in the
health, wellness and fitness industry. She completed her massage therapy training at the Sutherland-Chan School and is also a certified fascial stretch therapist as well as having completed training in acupuncture. She got her start as an RMT at the Sutherland-Chan Clinic and gained a well-rounded skill set but her passion for working out led her to GoodLife Fitness where she delivered tailored treatment plans to both weekend warriors and competitive athletes. Outside of work, Dawn Marie goes on morning walks with her Aussiedoodle dog, scours the city for the best new dark roast espresso, and enjoys taking her son to his weekly soccer games.

With over 12 years experience as a Physiotherapist in his original home country before beginning practice as an RMT here in Ontario, Gopi brings with him great knowledge on the body and various health conditions, Gopinath has developed the ability to acutely listen to what the clients body needs. It is important to him that his clients feel comfortable and have a sense of control over their treatment.

Ian is a graduate of the Sutherland-Chan School of
Massage Therapy. Ian integrates various soft tissue, hydrotherapy and stretch techniques to not only foster immediate relaxation but also lasting wellness.

 

He has had a wide range of clinical massage experience ranging from the High Risk Obstetrical Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital to the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at the University Health Network and the Sutherland Chan Clinic at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. Ian has also served as a therapist at high end spas in Ontario.

College’s Massage Therapy Program in 2023. Emma was drawn to massage therapy after completing a Specialist High Skills Major Diploma in Sports. She is passionate about helping others in their personal wellness journey. Emma is excited to begin her practice and committed to ongoing learning and development to enhance her skills. Dr. Calvin began his academic career at York
University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health Science (with Honours). After gaining exposure to chiropractic care, he chose to attend the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College where he developed a deep understanding of the musculoskeletal system graduating as a Doctor of Chiropractic.

 

Dr. Calvin is dedicated to helping patients achieve optimal health and wellness through a combination of chiropractic adjustments, gentle joint mobilizations, hands-on soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation exercises, and patient education. He has a passion for improving the quality of life for individuals of all age groups. He is a firm believer in evidence-based, and patient-centered care.

 

Dr. Calvin has been involved in sports teams ever since he was 10 years old participating in volleyball, basketball, cross country, track and field, rugby, and wrestling teams. During his undergraduate degree, he was also a member of the York University varsity wrestling team. Eli graduated with high honours from the Centennial
College massage therapy program in 2023. Before that, they graduated first in their program with a B.A. from Wilfrid Laurier University and later earned a B.Sc. with high distinction in cell and molecular biology from the University of Toronto.

 

Eli’s own path to wellness has been long and complicated. They aim to bring the compassion and understanding they developed through this process into their practice, with an emphasis on understanding their clients’ experiences and developing treatment strategies that meet clients where they are.

 

In their free time, Eli enjoys quiet reading, making collages, and exploring every part of Toronto’s ravines that they can find a way into.
